Táimid in Éirinn arís (We are in Ireland again!)

I decided that I would keep the blog updated on this, our 2nd trip to the Land of the Green.  Last time, I got frustrated because I forgot to bring the SD card adapter so I could load pictures on my computer.  Doing a blog post without pictures is just downright boring.  Wouldn't you agree?  So, this time, I made sure to not forget that little piece of technology.

Shall we start at the beginning?  The flights were rather uneventful.  Last year, we had a 4 hour layover before our big flight.  Keeping kids entertained in an airport for that long can be difficult.  Watching planes take off or land is only interesting for so long.  This time, we only had a little over an hour.  It was long enough to get to our gate and look around a bit, but not so long that the kids got antsy.  I had told Bill that I was going to buy a Diet Dr Pepper for the express purpose of having it after the 10k that I have scheduled for this Sunday.  Sadly, I didn't remember.

One big difference between this year and last was our airline.  Last year, we flew Aer Lingus and we really enjoyed the flight attendants being Irish.  I even had Katie say hello in Irish to some of them, which they found adorable.  This year, we flew American Airlines.  The kids and I took up an entire middle row and Bill was across the aisle.

My flight attendants were awesome!  His, not so much.  They seemed to be a lot more pushy and not as friendly.  One of the attendants came over and pretty much yelled at someone for having pushed their call button (which had been a mistake on that person's part) I think she was trying to be sarcastic/funny, but it came off as pretty rude.

It makes me laugh how much they feed you on an international flight.  We were served dinner less than an hour after we took off.  Our flight left at 9pm so I was glad that it was so quick.  My kids were quite pleased with their pasta although it took Fuad 2 hours to finish his food.  He ate EVERYTHING they gave him, and he also kept getting distracted by his TV.  I was so excited that American carries Diet Dr Pepper on their flights.  My flight attendant (I told you she was wonderful) gave me a full can with dinner and then, when they came back through 1/2 hour later, she offered me another can.  I was blessed that, even though I forgot earlier, I was able to get another soda to have after my "race." **I put that in quotes because I'm doubting I will beat anyone in this 10k...so I'm not sure how much of a race it will be.😀

They turned the lights off about 1/2 hour after serving dinner, so Fuad ate most of his food in the dark.  Anyway, about an hour after he finished, they came through handing out breakfast boxes (yogurt, muffin top, dried fruit mix and granola)  I was shocked that he took it and ate that too...along with a large glass of OJ.  Katie was satisfied with just the yogurt.

In seat TV screens have become quite a joke with our family.  We cannot take a flight that all of our screens work.  When we sat down, Katie's screen was blank.  They rebooted her screen and then the audio went wonky with mine....all I could hear was high, screechy static noise.  They rebooted my unit (which rebooted our entire row....meaning the kids' too)  When it came back up, mine was good but none of the kids had audio at all.  *See what I mean?  One more reboot and the kids' were good and I was back to static.  I was happy that I brought a book.  As my GPS screen showed this, I thought I had made a fitting choice for reading material.  What do you think? 😉

After a couple hours, Katie zonked out so I was able to watch on her screen.  I watched the new live action Beauty and the Beast and oh did I cry!  Of course, I might have been more emotional than normal because of exhaustion, but still, it was a fantastic movie.

Our flight seemed so short this time.  It was almost 6 hours but felt like no time at all...that happens when I read. 😊   I was able to sneak over to an empty window seat to get my first view (the 2nd time around) of Ireland.  Just seeing it makes my heart flutter.

I was surprised that I wasn't insanely tired.  Or I thought I wasn't.  I have a story that shows how wrong I was, but that will go with my next post.  **Traveling to Fintona**
